RESIST The Budget!

While Trump may have campaigned on promises to fight for the “forgotten man and woman,” his administration’s budget—expected Tuesday, May 23—will include deep cuts to critical programs for workers, children, seniors, people with disabilities, and LGBT Americans, while undermining environmental protections, investments in women’s health, and more—to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Just a few weeks later, Congress will release its own budgets with similarly lopsided priorities.

#ACTION To further understand the budget, here are two videos to check out:

-"The Science of Federal Budgets" is a video about the budget making process particularly as it pertains to science

-"Trumps Budget Explained" is a very clear, nonpartisan account of what was in Trump's skinny budget, including appropriations for the Wall, increases in military spending, and decreases to just about everything else.

Today SolSun is amplifying Hands Off, a national campaign from the Center for American Progress to stop budget cuts that would harm everyday Americans and their families.

The campaign’s steering committee includes: American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME); the Center for Community Change; Coalition on Human Needs; Generation Progress; Indivisible; National Council on La Raza; National Women’s Law Center; NETWORK Advocates for Catholic Social Justice; Organizing for Action (OFA); PICO National Network; Planned Parenthood Service Employees International Union (SEIU); Social Security Works; Stand Up America; The Arc of the United States.

Budget cuts are about much more than statistics and charts. That’s why a core goal of the Hands Off campaign is putting a human face on proposed cuts to educate the public and policymakers about what’s at stake. Through the campaign’s website—HandsOff.org—people can share their stories and access a toolkit to tell Members of Congress what the budget would mean for them, their families, and their communities.

#ACTION:

1. Go to https://handsoff.org/ and SHARE YOUR STORY as to how the budget cuts will affect YOU or people you love.

2. On social media, use the #HandsOff hashtag when discussing proposed cuts to critical programs in the Trump/Congressional Budgets

3. Take a photo and share your story using the hashtag #HandsOff

Thanks to Wall-of-Us and Colleen Chien for sharing the great resources for today's ACTIONS!
