***SOLIDARITY SUNDAYS DAILY ACTIONS***
Thurs May 18, 2017
You know what today's action is? It's whatever you need it to be—make calls, follow the news, turn up your old Soundgarden CD and listen to Chris Cornell wail while you think whatever thoughts you want to think about Roger Ailes ;). There is SO much going on and it's all happening so fast—and we KNOW there is so much more to come. Rosenstein is briefing the Senate today. Net neutrality rollback has started. Burr said that Flynn wouldn't obey the subpoena but then he walked it back. Chaffetz is gonna resign by June. And Reuter's just reported that "Trump's campaign reportedly had at least 18 undisclosed contacts with Russian officials and those with ties to Moscow." 45 is about to leave the country for 9 days (hey can we build that wall real quick while he's gone but make it around the White House instead?!) where he will engage in a whirlwind series of super high-stakes, sensitive interactions that he's bound to bungle. And he'll give a speech about Islam written by Stephen Miller the racist weasel-child who is every little evil pubescent high school Republican we hated in high school! Wheeeee!
But also! Chelsea Manning is free! Oscar Lopez Rivera is free! Larry Krasner won in Philly! And we have SUPER IMPORTANT special elections coming up: Montana on 5/25 and Ossof in Georgia on 6/20 and South Carolina on 6/20 as well.
One thing is for sure, though: The efforts of #TheResistance ARE WORKING. I 100% believe that the constant and consistent stream of calls, emails, demonstrations, townhalls, etc that we've been part of have led to this moment (moment of what? chaos? reckoning? we'll see...) We've kept the pressure on the media AND on our Reps and despite the immense (also illegal) efforts of the White House IT IS NOT GOING AWAY. The only thing that's going away is his presidency, amirite?!
So yeah: kick back and follow along today (or make your calls! You know where to look for scripts and guidance by now!) Or kick back and listen to a podcast, like maybe Politically Reactive! If you're just joining us here in SolSun because you heard me on W. Kamau Bell and Hari Kondabolu's podcast, then welcome! We're glad you're here (as long as you're not an asshole.) It was super fun to talk to Kamau and Hari (duh, how could it NOT be fun to talk to those guys) and I'm really excited about how excited THEY are about SolSun. I'm including it here NOT to self-promote (I really try to avoid doing that here!) but to share the SolSun love. And PLEASE listen to the other episodes—they've interviewed so many incredible leaders, activists, journalists and all-around brilliant people. Honored to be among them.
