SESSIONS MUST GO! This story is BIG—let's join the growing calls for Sessions to RESIGN. Many GOP lawmakers are now calling on Sessions to recuse himself from any Russia-related investigations—that's cool, but we call for RESIGNATION. #perjury #liarliar #lockhimup #CrookedSessions
1. On March 1st, WaPo reported that then-Senator Jeff Sessions met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the campaign season (Sept, when Russian hacking efforts were at peak) while he (Sessions) was a high-level Trump associate. This explicitly contradicts Sessions' testimony under oath during his Senate confirmation hearing to be Attorney General when he said, "I did not have communications with the Russians." In addition to this false statement, Sessions answered a written question about whether or not he had any contact with Russian officials with a one-word answer, "No." It was not illegal or against any rules for Sessions to meet with the Russian Ambassador during the election; he could have disclosed that fact to the Senate. Instead, he chose to lie, or at least purposely mislead members of Congress, about his past communication with Russian officials, which raises more questions of what those conversations might have entailed.
There has been growing pressure for Sessions to recuse himself from leading all investigations that involve the Trump campaign and/or administration because of his personal participation in them. Now, several members of Congress, including Elijah Cummings Elizabeth Warren, and Chuck Schumer are calling for Sessions to completely step down as Attorney General. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi stated, "Now, after lying under oath to Congress about his own communications with the Russians, the Attorney General must resign. Sessions is not fit to serve as the top law enforcement officer of our country and must resign."
#ACTION: Call your SENATORS and your HOUSE REP and tell them you want Sessions to resign!
"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling to request that [SENATOR/REP NAME] call for the resignation of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. It is unacceptable for the leading law enforcement official in the country to have committed a crime himself by lying under oath. Thank you for your hard work answering the phones."
2. #ACTION File a complaint about Sessions w/ the Inspector General—that's where you submit complaints about "fraud, abuse, misconduct, or whistleblower reprisal relating to a Department of Justice (DOJ) employee." Yup, sounds about right!
Email form: https://oig.justice.gov/hotline/contact-doj.htm
Phone: (800) 869-4499 (press 1, then press 9 for a real person)
*UPDATE: OPERATORS ARE VERY CRABBY (as one is when one's new boss is a lying racist) AND WILL ASK YOU TO SUBMIT COMPLAINTS IN WRITING. STILL CALL. PERSIST!*
"Hello, I am calling to file a complaint related to a DOJ employee. His name is Jeff Sessions, and he has committed perjury by lying under oath. It is unacceptable for him to remain as the leading law enforcement official in the country. Thank you."
3. Spread this story far + wide! Sessions is DANGEROUS and needs to GO!
