Ok, first: Congratulations to Barry Jenkins and the entire cast + crew of MOONLIGHT. Crazy surreal Oscar ending aside, it was an significant night in many ways. As my friend Anisse Gross wrote: "This year’s Oscars had the most black winners in history. It marks the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar. First LGBTQ+ movie to win best picture. Jenkins and McCraney won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay, the first time multiple African-American writers have received an Oscar in the same year. It’s the first movie with an all black cast to win an Oscar." So, today we celebrate that!
Now: ONE #ACTION for today, that is actually LOTS of calls! Can't call em all? Do your best!
This #Action comes from the great folks at Daily Action!
Call the Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee again and double down on our demands that they support a Resolution of Inquiry into Trump's tax returns and his ties to Russia.
We are making real progress--on Friday night, after his office was bombarded with our calls, Committee Member (and Trump yes man) Darrell Issa called for a special prosecutor to look into Trump's associates' relationships with Russians. This is a very positive development—but we still need congressional oversight as well. Let's tell other committee members to get on board and bring this resolution to the House floor for a full vote. If they truly love their country, they need to take real steps to protect it. The committee vote is tomorrow, and we must insist that these members not bury this essential investigation. We are watching!
Sample script: "Hi, my name is ____ and I am calling to support Representative Issa's calls for a special prosecutor to investigate Trump's ties to Russia. I also urge you to advance Representative Nadler's Resolution of Inquiry into Trump's relationship with Russia and his tax returns to a full vote on the floor of the House. This is a nonpartisan issue. It's about the safety and sovereignty of the United States."
