SolSun Call for Action for Feb. 15th

Wed 2/15/17

[Note: We post these Daily Actions to our website everyday. Please check out and share w/ those who aren't on FB!]

Thank you to everyone who got out there with RESIST banners yesterday! I am swamped today, so these #Actions repeat from yesterday (except #1! PUZDER!) PLEASE add new and urgent actions in the thread...but holy moly, Batman, what is this insane Russian spy novel we are living in?! WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING. Ok sorry—here you go—

1. (from Campaign donor Andrew Puzder, yet another multi-millionaire cabinet pick, has been tapped as Secretary of Labor. A fast-food restaurant CEO, he opposes higher minimum wages, paid sick leave policies, and the expansion of overtime pay eligibility. He also supports repealing the ACA (Obamacare). Throughout his career, Andrew Puzder has put corporate profits ahead of families, and he will be a disaster for hard-working, middle-class Americans.

Puzder's committee hearing has finally been scheduled for Thursday, Feb 16th, after several delays caused by Puzder's own doubts about the job and a sea of scandals. CKE Restaurants, which Puzder is CEO of, faces a number of class action lawsuits from its employees for wage theft and sexual harassment. Puzder himself admitted to employing an undocumented immigrant as a housekeeper, which Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) dismissed as a "mistake." However, others question whether Puzder, a CEO who makes 291 times more than his employees do, can—or wants to—protect all American workers.

At least 5 GOP senators have stated they are "on the fence" about Andrew Puzder's nomination for Sec of Labor, including Collins (ME), Isakson (GA), Murkowski (AK), Portman (OH), and Scott (SC).

"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling to express my deep opposition to the confirmation of Andrew Puzder as Secretary of Labor. Throughout his career, Andrew Puzder has put corporate profits ahead of protecting American workers."

#ACTION: CALL Collins (ME), Isakson (GA), Murkowski (AK), Portman (OH), and Scott (SC).

2. #ACTION Call YOUR HOUSE REP and express your support for Congressman Nadler's Resolution of Inquiry.
Background: Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, filed a Resolution of Inquiry on February 9th. A Resolution of Inquiry is a special legislative tool that has “privileged parliamentary status": it must be debated and voted on by the relevant Committee within 14 legislative days, or it can be brought in front of the entire House. Congressman Nadler's resolution requests information from the Justice Department on any and all “criminal or counterintelligence investigations” into Trump and his team, including those into national security advisor Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. If the resolution passes, the Justice Department must reveal its findings on Trump and his associates.

"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I'm calling to express my support for Congressman Nadler's Resolution of Inquiry. I don't believe that Michael Flynn is the only one guilty of wrongdoings, and think we need a full-scale investigation."

3. #ACTION Call the offices of Rep Devin Nunes (CA), Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee (and one of 45's little acolytes) who said this morning that he thinks the Committee should investigate the LEAKS that led to the Flynn scandal, not the actual crises of national security. He also continues to defend Flynn.

"I'm calling because we need a full, independent investigation on Russia's involvement with our election. The leaks are NOT the crisis—the dishonesty of Michael Flynn and the others who are surely involved are the crisis. Please ask Mr. Nunes that the American people say: DO YOUR JOB."
