This Sunday, over 100 SolSun chapters all over the country will be meeting to take a variety of urgent, timely resistance actions, from thanking women who are PERSISTING to writing letters to Betsy DeVos. We've prepared an infoscript w/ actions, and will be posting it here on Saturday evening, so that those who can't attend an in-person meeting can still take action. Thanks in advance to everyone who is hosting this Sunday, and to all who plan to make it to a meeting!
For today, here are some quick #actions you can take:
1. [from 5calls.org] CALL THE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON OVERSIGHT & GOV'T REFORM: On Thursday, February 9th, Kellyanne Conway told Fox News viewers to, “Go buy Ivanka’s stuff!” in response to retailers dropping Ms. Trump’s clothing line. This was not a casual plug; it was illegal. Federal ethics law 2635.702 prohibits the use of public office for private gain. It also states no employee of that public official may use the office to endorse a product, service or enterprise in which their friends, relatives or affiliates are involved. This law is an important check on executive power and it falls to the House Oversight Committee to uphold it.
Call this office: 1 202-225-5051
"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I live in [CITY, STATE]. I'm calling to express my outrage that Kellyanne Conway violated federal ethics law by endorsing Ivanka Trump’s clothing line on television. I expect Representative Cummings to fight hard to get the House Oversight Committee to investigate."
2. One of our THANK YOU actions on Sunday will be to thank Rep Stephanie Murphy of Florida, a first-time Rep (and the first Vietnamese-American woman to be elected to Congress!) who has introduced a House bill to get Bannon off the National Security Council. #Action: Check and see if YOUR Rep has signed on to co-sponsor HR 804—if so, call and thank them! If not, call and ask that they do.
3. FEEL LIKE YOU CAN DONATE SOME $$$? I want to amplify this fundraiser for SURJ Bay Area (Showing Up For Racial Justice) who are raising funds this week to be evenly distributed to organizations led by and for People-of-Color on the front-lines of the immigration rights movement. Money will go to: Asian Law Caucus Legal Clinic; Arab Resource & Organizing Center (AROC); Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI); Centro Legal de La Raza; Council on American-Islamic Relations Bay Area (CAIR).
While this IS a regionally-specific chapter of a national org, and we like to keep things more 'national' on this page, California + the Bay Area are on the forefront of the immigrant rights movement, and these are incredible orgs whose work goes far beyond this region.
In the spirit of solidarity, please amplify fundraising calls/efforts for other great orgs in the thread below!
