First, a big WELCOME to new FB group members AND new SolSun chapter hosts—since the Women's March we have added chapters in Chicago, Montpellier, Missoula, the Twin Cities, Gulf Coast Mississippi, D.C., Eugene, Philly (several new ones there!) and several new ones in California, including San Bernardino Co, Yolo Co, and new Oakland ones. And many more are in progress! Check the website for locations and contact info.
Tr*mp's Cabinet of Horrors Update: The following have been approved: John Kelly (Homeland Security); James Mattis (Defense); Mike Pompeo (CIA); Nikki Haley (U.N. Ambassador). Rex Tillerson (State Dept) has been voted out of committee (meaning the Committee approved him--thanks Rubio--and the vote goes before the full Senate). All other noms are either in Committee or haven't had hearings.
1. CALL YOUR DEM SENATORS ABOUT CABINET APPOINTEES–WHERE DO THEY STAND?
This action is SPECIFICALLY for DEMOCRATIC Senators—THEY NEED TO HEAR FROM US! Many of us have assumed they'd stand strong against Cabinet appointees, but then 14 of them (See Action #2) approved Pompeo. Some of your Sens might be on Senate Committees (you can easily look that up); all Sens will vote on nominees. Either way, call their offices. You can pick specific Cabinet appointees to ask about, or just ask about all the ones who remain. (See the NPR article in the comments for up-to-date info on who's who).
"I am a constituent and I'm calling to ask where Sen._______ stands on the Cabinet nominees. Can you please provide that info?As a Democrat who represents voters like myself in __[your state]__ I'm hoping that s/he will stand strong against these unqualified, dangerous nominees."
2. IF YOUR DEM SENATOR was one of the 14 who voted for Pompeo, CALL AND ASK WHY. I've seen tons of people on threads asking "Why did Feinstein approve Pompeo?!" Best way to find out? CALL AND DEMAND (politely) TO KNOW WHY.
Joe Donnelly of Indiana
Dianne Feinstein of California
Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire
Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota
Tim Kaine of Virginia
Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
Joe Manchin of West Virginia
Claire McCaskill of Missouri
Jack Reed of Rhode Island
Brian Schatz of Hawaii
Chuck Schumer of New York
Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire
Mark Warner of Virginia
Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island
3. Finally, let's talk about giving $—as we all get distracted/freaked out by all that's happening, remember that there are crucial organizations working everyday, regardless of the day's political turmoil. In honor of Worst State Senator Ever, Chris McDaniel of Mississippi, we suggest *making a donation to JACKSON WOMEN'S HEALTH, Mississippi's ONLY ABORTION CLINIC.* Replying to McDaniel only feeds the trolls—let's give to a place that NEEDS our support! $5? $10? $50? Let's make it happen!
