SolSun Call for Actions for Dec. 19th

***SOLIDARITY SUNDAYS DAILY ACTIONS***
Monday Dec. 19, 2016

Many many thank yous to everyone who has written/called members of the Electoral College, and to everyone who is gathered today at state capitals around the country to demand that this broken system be as visible as possible. We won't get the outcome we want/deserve, but we have made a lot of noise, and have educated ourselves and others about how the EC actually works—as someone said in a thread below, this kind of civic education is powerful, and necessary. It is disappointing and shitty, but it cannot discourage or derail us. That's just not an option. The struggle is real, it is long, and it is made up of myriad victories and setbacks. It's a long-haul, and we're in it.

In the spirit of civic education and community-based actions, here are some reading actions for today. Thanks to Mikki Halpin for sharing the following links in her Action Now newsletters today:

1. The Indivisible doc that we posted last week went pretty viral, and Google docs got overwhelmed—the team behind it turned it into a nice-looking PDF, and a website. If you haven't read it yet, read it today! Print out a copy! Put it in your purse and read it on the subway or in line at the post office instead of looking at your phone!

2. Good article on how cities are resisting Tr*mp's climate change denial nonsense and pushing forward with strong local environmental regulations. What is YOUR local/state government doing?

3. Really interesting piece on the role of hairdressers in identifying victims of domestic violence, and how Illinois has developed a curriculum and training program around it.

4. Finally, for those interested in finding a banking option that doesn't invest in the DAPL and/or has some community connections/social justice values, this article is a good start.

We'll be posting soon about making The Personal is Political/The Political is Personal New Year's Resolutions...maybe yours will be switching banks?! Going solar? Giving up meat? Running for office...!?! Start thinking...
